Summary
AeroCalm has no account, login, ads or data sales. Almost everything stays on your phone. The app only uses the internet to look up your flight and news from your destination, and for an anonymous usage count that you can turn off on the home screen.
What stays on your phone
- Your language, favorites and the day's checklist.
- The flight you saved (number, times, route) and the destination headlines, so they work in airplane mode.
- Your anonymous-count preference and events not sent yet.
- The random installation code (see below).
Deleting the app deletes all of this.
What leaves your phone, and why
| When | What is sent | To whom | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| You look up a flight | Flight number, date, language and the installation code | Our server, which queries AeroDataBox | Show route, times and what to expect |
| You have a saved flight, before landing | City, country and coordinates of the destination airport, language and the installation code | Our server, which queries World News API (or GDELT if it fails) | Download light headlines from the destination |
| You open a news story | The story's address | The news site, in the browser | Read the full story |
| The news list shows images | Image request | The site that published the image | Show the headline photo |
| Anonymous count (on by default) | Generic events (see below), language, system and app version | Aptabase | Learn which parts of the app are used |
Our server keeps no record of who asked for what: it runs without an access log. It keeps only search results in memory for a short time (10 minutes for flights, 1 hour for news) so as not to waste API quota. Your IP address is used only in memory to limit the number of requests per minute.
Installation code
The first time it needs to look something up, the app creates a random code (a UUID, for example 3f2b8c1e-…) and stores it on your phone. It contains no name, e-mail, device data, flight or anything about your fear, and it is never sent with the anonymous usage count.
- Why: to limit how many flight lookups each installation makes per day, so the service keeps working for everyone. Flight lookups cost us money.
- When it leaves your phone: only with flight and news lookups, to our server. Today it is only counted for flight lookups.
- What the server keeps: only how many lookups that code made today, in memory. Everything is erased when the day changes (UTC) and it is never written to a log.
- To change the code: delete and reinstall the app.
AeroDataBox, World News API and GDELT receive the request from our server, not from your phone.
Anonymous usage count
- Events: the app opened, which section was opened (Before the flight, During the flight, Take my mind off it, What if...?), which distraction activity was used, the fact that a flight was saved, and failures looking up a flight or news.
- Never included: which sensation or question you read, what you searched for, flight number, airports, cities, times, favorites or any data that identifies you.
- Nothing is sent during the flight: events wait on the phone and only leave when you are on the home screen or in Before the flight.
- Aptabase collects no device identifier. According to its policy, the IP is turned into a scrambled code (a hash with a key that changes daily and is discarded), which cannot be traced back to the IP: https://aptabase.com/legal/privacy
- To turn it off: use the "Help improve the app (anonymous)" switch at the bottom of the home screen. Turning it off also deletes events not sent yet.
Who is responsible and your rights
Data controller: the developer of AeroCalm, reachable at contato@aerocalm.com.br.
You can ask about your data, or ask for it to be corrected or deleted, by writing to contato@aerocalm.com.br. Since the app has no account and keeps no data that identifies you, in most cases nothing about you is stored outside your phone.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data about them.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be published here with its update date.
